Vacations are those memorable periods that every family looks forward to. You may plan it perfectly well in advance and have all your accommodations and tickets booked. But you can never predict any interruptions in trips that may arise in the last moment.
With the onset of winter in the coming months, flight delays, interruption in pre-planned travel, flight cancellations would not be uncommon. In addition, this may also force you to cancel or readjust any hotel accommodations, resort stays, etc… that you may have planned in advance.
Non-refundable booking especially on a family holiday would cost you a lot in the case of long vacations during peak seasons. However, if the trip does not work out as planned due to personal emergency, illness, travel interruptions, extreme unfavourable climatic conditions, it would not only cost you disappointment but a loss of thousands of dollars. In addition, in the case of cancellation of flights, you may have to take up stand-by accommodations and arrange for other basic amenities till you get alternate arrangement for transport.
These additional costs and non-refundable deposits of a pre-planned trip would be reimbursed in case you purchase a trip cancellation insurance policy before your departure. In fact, some tourist insurance policies also offer alternate means of transport through flights or road to help you reach your destination successfully!

People vacationing in exotic locales who love adventure sports are advised to cover themselves for any of these dangerous sports that they are planning as a part of tourist insurance policy. Sometimes, insurance policies keep this coverage as optional and the individual has to specifically mention his requirement while submitting the application.
Statistics reveal that accidents or injuries while practicing adventure sports are not uncommon. About 10% of the adventure sports enthusiasts get injured during such vacations and the intensity of injuries vary.
But in case any emergency evacuation or helicopter assistance is needed, it would work out very expensive to pay out of your personal pockets as these kind of emergency operations could cost you around 100,000 dollars! Adding to this would be the expenses incurred due to surgeries, medical treatments, doctor consultation charges and hospitalization expenses which could reach unbelievably high levels.
Survey reports state that only around 70% of the people opt for coverage for adventure sports. This shows how ignorant the individuals are about taking care of the personal safety.
Hence, every overseas travel who wants to enjoy a worry-free paradise trip is advised to not miss out on the travel insurance coverage for adventure sports.

Many people enjoy the lush green drives on the long roads during travel. This gives more intimate time for the travelers, especially during family or group vacations.
In order to enjoy a schedule-free flexible travel without much time constraints and to avoid the tension of catching transport and also to cover exotic places, it is a common practice for people to hire a car at the destination places for sight seeing and also go on long drives and cover more places during the trip.
Though people may insure themselves and their personal belongings with a suitable international travel insurance plan, car hire excess insurance is generally ignored. This comes into play if the vehicle meets with an accident during which you would require assistance from the insurance company to help you repair the damage.
Many airlines and firms which give cars on hire add this as a component of the travel package or make it optional for the customer. Generally, car hire firms insist on buying an insurance policy before they give the vehicle on hire.
Car hire insurance would be less expensive if you are purchasing it along with an annual international travel insurance multi-trip policy. Purchasing it on a single-trip basis may be very costly.

Travelers should be very careful if they are using credit or debit cards frequently during their trip abroad, especially on a personal vacation or a leisure trip. This is because most of the banks charge a transaction fee every time you swipe these cards outside your homeland.
Hence, it is advisable to gather adequate information from the banks about the usage terms or refer to the user manual given at the time of purchasing a credit or debit card. Ensure that you get the most recent and updated information regarding the same before you start travel.
In addition to charging a processing fee for every transaction overseas, cash withdrawals from ATM abroad are also generally charged in addition to the exchange rate commissions. In some cases, a withdrawal limit is set below which the charges are pretty high. Hence, in case you are forced to use your ATM card abroad, it is better to withdraw a large amount within a single transaction and use cash for daily use.
Another way of optimally using your funds it to exchange cash before traveling on a commission free basis and simply use this during your stay abroad. This is feasible only if the duration of stay is short.
Finally, do not forget to insure your baggage and personal belongings and also in the case of theft / loss of credit or debit card.
