Handling personal belongings during a travel

In addition, depending on the purpose of the travel, there are other personal belongings that may be expensive as well as priceless. Cameras, mobile phones, expensive clothing (in case of wedding or business meetings), jewellery are some of the expensive items that people carry for business, personal or leisure travels.
Though your international travel insurance policy may offer coverage for loss of personal belongings, you need to provide sufficient proof that you had not handled your belongings irresponsibly. For example, if you leave any of your valuables unattended during travel and you lose them, your insurer would not reimburse any amount.
The companies expect you to store your valuables in a safety locker. Similarly loss of valuables from an unlocked baggage is considered irresponsible handling and hence you would not be reimbursed.

In order to ensure that you do not get shocking surprises ultimately, here are a few questions to look out for when you read the small print
Multiple Excesses: This is a tricky factor of any insurance policy. You need to check the amount you have to bear per claim. For example, if you lose a purse containing a camera, it is considered as losing two items and not one!
Medical coverage: Some insurance policies offer emergency medical assistance only in certain countries. For example, coverage may be available only outside a certain country or it may come with a lot of restrictions if you are in your home country. Check for this condition in the small print
Baggage cover: Check whether stolen belongings or theft of your personal belongings would be reimbursed in case you are looking for a baggage cover and also the maximum amount you would be reimbursed
Emergency Assistance: Check whether emergency assistance is available as a part of the policy or is an optional benefit

With the current global economic crisis, many people are lost in a way as to how to spend a vacation this year with the families. Probably, expensive holidays may not be affordable by many, but one need not think of compromising the valuable time that you spend with loved ones. You may enjoy a vacation near your home if you can think out of the box.
Travel to nearby places: Not many people realize that they take pains to travel long distances and enjoy sightseeing far away from their home. But how many of us have explored the beautiful spots that are present near our homes?
Avoid flying: You can look at going on a holiday by taking alternate means of transport. Driving is a great option but resort to safe driving practises within the speed limit. Avoid getting drunk while planning on a drive.
In case you are planning to travel outside your home country, do not forget to purchase a suitable tourist insurance policy.
