  • A Growing Need to Purchase Travel Insurance

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) recently reported that the number of travelers falling ill when traveling abroad has hit a record high. The research looked at British travelers but the need for comprehensive international travel insurance applies to all nationalities. International travel insurance is essential when looking at the rising numbers of injuries and illnesses abroad.

The ABI said medical expense claims have risen by 270 percent in six years. Claims for medical treatment and doctors’ visits cost travel insurance companies around £275m ($435m) each year.

The most common health complaints overseas include diarrhea and stomach problems, allergies, heart problems and ear infections. Accidents can happen in the car, on foot, or while taking part in sports on vacation. Even non-serious complaints can have a high medical cost.

The chances are you’ll fall ill at some point on your travels, even if it is with something non-serious. Make sure your travel insurance is up to date so you’re covered when it happens.
