Hollywood Celebrity Icons Partner with The ASH Foundation to Embrace the Homeless Men at the Midnight Mission in Los Angeles   /EIN New/ Los Angeles June 19th, 2009 - When a major humanitarian cause is the buzz around town in Hollywood, it is not uncommon to witness a line-up of celebrity icons step up, reach out and show their support. The ASH Foundation, a California based 501 c 3 non-profit organization committed to changing the lives of the millions of children in African nations who have been orphaned by the devastating effects caused by AIDS and the displaced living on Skid Row, is one of those celebrity endorsed organizations.  Through their efforts, they gather and distribute shoes, clothing, other necessities, and services to aid the disadvantaged and underprivileged children of African nations. As well, they recognize the needs of the displaced right here in our own back yard and continue to gather shoes for the homeless and disadvantaged in the Los Angeles area. They have five amazing programs: Shoes for Africa, Shoes for Los Angeles, It Takes a Village Sponsor a Child, A Road To Success, Every Child Deserves A Place to Learn and The Power To Make Things Happen Scholarship.  On June 24th, Hollywood icons and athletes, Tom Arnold, Kenny Lattimore, Brandon Fobbs, Howard Hewett, Essence Atkins, Claudia Wells, Jonathan Bennett, Teddy Riley, Niecy Nash, Antonio Cromartie, Harry Smith, Ananda Lewis, Saxophonist Mark Allen Fenton will perform, and many more will be on tap to join The ASH Foundation as they wash the feet and place clean white socks and adequate shoes on the displaced and disadvantage men in the courtyard of The Midnight Mission located at 601 South San Pedro Street, Los Angeles, from 1:00 p.m.

- 5:00 p.m. Clergy leaders, Pastor Barry Lyons of Living Waters of the San Fernando Valley, Pastor Charles Humphrey of Hope’s House Ministries and Rev. John W. Miller of Community Lutheran Church of Los Angeles along with several members of their church, will also be on site to lend a hand to this day of loving and serving the displaced. The Midnight Mission’s Managing Director, Clancy Imislund will be the event speaker for this event.

Los Angeles based highly credentialed Tony Sheppard a music engineer/producer invited all the celebrities to “Take on the Mic” at his studio to record all the raw/unfinished voice overs and sent them to Minneapolis based Music Producer/Composer Spud Too Tight who composed the music and produced the celebrity PSA’s. Spud Too Tight has a Publishing/Administration deal with Missing Link Music one of the leading publishing and administration companies in North America. Both producers volunteered their time to support the mission.  “Homelessness has always been my number one platform, says Executive Director Dion Fearon, so providing basic needs such as socks and adequate shoes for the displaced on Skid Row was only natural. Choosing The Midnight Mission to partner with to accomplish this was pure faith.

Actor Tom Arnold says, “This is simple and specific and I can see wrapping my brain around supporting this foundation.” This type of community outpouring is amazing and the timing couldn’t be better. With our economy suffering and the demand for our services rising, we know that it will take efforts like this from the local community to get us through these trying times. “We are grateful to have the opportunity to facilitate this marvelous event,” added Larry Adamson, President of the mission.  For more information about The ASH Foundation visit: http://www.theashefoundation.org Successful partnership, sponsorship, donors and volunteers are needed to guarantee the foundations success and allow us to change the world two feet at a time.  ### .

Pennsylvania’s radon levels that are substantially higher than the national average which is why radon testing is critical. Some of the known radon areas in Western PA are Elizabeth, Ligonier, West Mifflin, South Park, Murrysville, New Kensington, McKees Rocks, Pittsburgh, Verona, Prospect, Oakmont, Cheswick, Belle Vernon, Jeannette, Sarver, Trafford, and Latrobe.  However, if your home is not located in one of these areas, you should still test your home.  Radon problems have been found all over the country. http://www.mitigationsystem.com/RadonMitigationPa.html  Radon gas is invisible, odorless, and colorless, so the only method of detection is with a radon test says James Budzeak, Certified Radon Specialist with Air Quality Mitigation.

Andy Warhol, Steve Kaufman, are having a Pop Art Show in Las Vegas July 4th Las Vegas NV - June 17, 2009—Centaur Art galleries is pleased to present the art work of Andy Warhol, who passed away in 1987, and his former assistant, Steve Kaufman. The exhibition of the “Master” and his “student”, reunited at last and exhibited together, is Centaur Art Galleries most ambitious undertaking in more than 20 years.  Centaur Art Gallery Is proud to present Steve Kaufman in person. The prince of pop art, former assistant to Andy Warhol.  Fashion Show Mall main level, next door to Bebe store. 3200 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas Nevada 89109.

Google Map.  Richard Perry interview on Steve Kaufman art Perry: My name is Richard Perry, and I am the Chief Operating Office of Centaur Art Galleries in the Fashion Show mall. We have been here 25 years, since the mall opened its doors.  Interviewer: Also tell me what attracted you to Steve Kaufman, to represent his art.  Perry: That’s a great question.

Sometimes art dealers can’t answer that question because there is an emotional response to the art. But, not only did I feel a very strong emotional response to Steve’s artwork because it’s popular art. It’s art that depicts the popularity of all of the things that we’ve lived through for the last 30, 40, 50, 60 years. And the great thing about Steve’s art is it has a wide range of massive appeal to the general public. 80 percent of the people who walk in here are struck by what he does and the messages he conveys in the art.

They also like the very reasonable prices. It’s a whole host of things. It’s not just one thing. When an art dealer makes a decision to represent an artist he looks at a variety of things. Part of what we look for is not only artists who are good and exceptionally talent and have the ability to be able to portray a massive variety of ideas and subjects, but we also like to represent artists who are at the beginning of their career, where there artwork is still very affordable, where you can buy very large works of art at what we think of as affordable prices.

Steve fits into the category of being probably the best, youngest, brightest, newest talent in the art community that anyone who’s probably come along in the last 25, 50 years. We are delighted to have his artwork in the gallery. We do very well with it. And I can’t speak any more highly of Steve other than to suggest that we think he’s going to be one of the greatest artists of the 21st century.  And, you know, when you spend your early years and your developmental years in a studio like Andy Warhol’s studio where Steve was an assistant, where there’s great genius hanging around in that factory - because his studio was referred to as the factory, this is where we produce mounds of different works of art, ideas that come along as the result of being star struck by everything going on around us.

And that’s what we like so much about Steve’s artwork. It’s pure genius.  Interviewer: Do you have any interesting stories about someone who likes Steve’s work?  Perry: Probably the most interesting well, rather than trying to select a story, I can tell you that the most remarkable thing that we find is people from every imaginable age range have bought Steve’s artwork from us. We’ve had couples in their 70’s and 80’s who’ve bought works of art from us. You wouldn’t think someone of that level of maturity and that age would find popular art exciting for them, but they have found in Steve’s images ideas, people, and places, things that they relate to, and that’s why people buy this art so easily.

I have hundreds of people that walk into the area of the gallery that we have set aside for Pablo Picasso, and they barely look at it. And one of the reasons why they barely look at it is that they don’t relate to it. You know, practically everything that Picasso did was as a modernist and as an artist was done for his own amusement, was done for his own edification, and it was done for his own gratification. The public had nothing to do with Picasso’s sense of motivation to produce works of art. He did them for his own pleasure as a young modernist in the developmental stages of modern art.

What Steve does is that not only does he capture the history of the time in which we live, he does it with an abundance of fun and color and shape and form and ideology that meets and greets hundreds and thousands of people, that captivates people when they walk in our doors. And that’s what makes it so exciting. And, you know, it isn’t any different in the theater, it isn’t any different if you are an author of books, it isn’t any different if you are in the performing arts, because the arts in general are meant to convey beautiful, wonderful, subliminal messages that people find attractive, that they never forget. They want to bring that experience home so they can remember it all of the time. That’s why we like Steve so much.

Interviewer: You’re great Mr. Perry. You gave us everything we need. Thank you.  For more information contact: Centaur Art Galleries, Phone: 702.737.1234, email: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), Website: http://www.centaurgalleries.com. .

Try Irish Dancing at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center Tuesday, June 09, 2009 /PRAvenueNW/—The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation is delighted to introduce beginner Traditional Irish Dance classes. Irish dancing is great fun, terrific exercise and will help to fine tune or develop the participant’s sense of rhythm. These workshops will be held on Saturday, July 11th and will be divided into three different classes and times. The breakdown of ages and times are as follows: ages 6-12 (4pm-5pm, $15), ages 13-18 (5pm-6pm, $20) and the Adult workshop (6pm-8pm, $35/SCHF members and $40/Non-members). Reservations are required.  This workshop will be a rare opportunity for the community to learn some old-style steps through the Irish culture of dance. Irish dance is a lively, energetic form of dance that encompasses three major forms: C(C)il Dancing, Set Dancing, and Step Dancing. C(C)il (pronounced cay-lee) dancing is the ancestor of Appalachian contra dancing and is similar, as well, to country square dancing. Set Dancing is also a type of social dance and is based on the French Quadrilles, where four couples form a set. Step dancing is a solo dance form and is again divided into sub-categories: modern step dancing, which we mostly associated with Riverdance, and old-style regional step dancing.  The classes will be taught by certified and professional instructor, Catherine Sherer Bishop. Students do not need any prior experience with Irish dance, or a partner, to participate. Irish dancing has a rigorous aerobic quality. As with any new fitness activity, you are encouraged to check with your doctor before beginning if you have any special health concerns. Participants should bring water to drink and should wear clothes that allow for easy movement.  Catherine Sherer Bishop holds a MFA in Dance from Southern Methodist University and received a Fulbright award to study at the University of Limerick, earning an MA in Ethnochoreology, with an emphasis in Irish Traditional Dance. While undertaking an intensive study of Irish dance and teaching, Catherine also earned the T.C.R.G (Irish dance teacher certification) from the Irish Dancing Commission in Dublin. Trained in ballet, Irish dance, jazz, modern, ballroom, musical theatre and tap, Catherine has worked professionally in both ballet and Irish dance. She was Principal Ballerina and Ballet Mistress for Ballet Mississippi from 1998-1999. Her more recent training and passion for Irish dance has brought opportunities to perform and present workshops in Germany, Ireland, France, Florida, Louisiana, Nebraska, Texas, Mississippi, West Virginia, and South Carolina, and she is the only certified Irish Dance teacher in the state of Mississippi. Most notably, Catherine toured in Germany with the Irish Harp Orchestra in 2003 as lead female dancer, choreographer, and dance captain.  Space is limited and reservations are required.
